I REALLY THOUGHT I’D DREAD THE WINTER. Now that it’s here—unavoidably so—I really don’t much mind. Yesterday morning I walked out the door and began the trail to class. The first thing I noticed was an impeccable calmness that had overtaken my surroundings. There was not a sound, no cars screeching on the streets, no doors opening or closing, no sirens or horns. Only a light snowfall that extended the whiteness of the earth; an awakening. For two and a half blocks, I meditated in frost-coated silence.
