Dr. King is greeted on his return to the United States after receiving the Nobel Peace Prize, Oct. 31, 1964

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday celebrates the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America. We commemorate as well the timeless values he taught us through his example – the values of courage, truth, justice, compassion, dignity, humility and service that so radiantly defined Dr. King’s character and empowered his leadership. On this holiday, we commemorate the universal, unconditional love, forgiveness and nonviolence that empowered his revolutionary spirit.

We commemorate Dr. King’s inspiring words, because his voice and his vision filled a great void in our nation, and answered our collective longing to become a country that truly lived by its noblest principles. Yet, Dr. King knew that it wasn’t enough just to talk the talk, that he had to walk the walk for his words to be credible. And so we commemorate on this holiday the man of action, who put his life on the line for freedom and justice every day, the man who braved threats and jail and beatings and who ultimately paid the highest price to make democracy a reality for all Americans.

The King Holiday honors the life and contributions of America’s greatest champion of racial justice and equality, the leader who not only dreamed of a color-blind society, but who also lead a movement that achieved historic reforms to help make it a reality.

Can I tell you a secret? Today for the first time ever, I had one of my secrets published on PostSecret! (I’ve been sending in secrets for years.) The funniest thing about it is, it’s a secret I sent in over a year ago!

I won’t tell you which one is mine…just leave you to guess!

Black Swan
I saw Black Swan while on vacation. I was skeptical going into the movie knowing it had a dark storyline, but it was such a beautiful film! Natalie Portman was stunning (albeit a little thin, but gorgeous nonetheless). It made me wish I were a dancer.

I found the costumes to be inspirational and created a mish-mash of different fashion that reminded me of the movie. My favorites are the black feather necklace and ballet flats! Now I want to be a ballerina…oh, boy…

SIMBAD: The Stay In My Bed All Day Edition

I’m not going to lie: I got up at 3:30pm today. Really. I didn’t feel there was anything in the world that needed to be done more than laying in my sheets like a slug, so I did. And it was good.

Now that the lazy is out of my system, I’m trying to get ready for my LAST FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL on Tuesday. Wow. It’s my tenth semester! Preparation has been slow. Right now I’m making contracts for the work I’m promising my professors I’ll complete. It’s tough—if I promise too much work, I’m going to be out of control busy; too little work and I’m a slacker. Either way, there’s much design to be done.

No more dilly-dallying for this lady.
