My studio space: where I spend a ton of time. A lot of times it acts as a coat rack while I work down in the sculpture studio space (where I can actually get messy), but my space is where a lot of my schtuff sleeps at night and comes alive during the day.
Just to give you an idea of the kind of chaos my life is in right now, here’s the space next to mine:
…and here’s where I occupy:
Finally, a teaser of what I’m working on. This is all you get! (PS, don’t let the cardboard fool you! I promise it won’t be kitschy!)

Back to work with me!

Currently Digging: Cute things from ban.do

I’m a lady. It’s in our contract to like cute, flowery and bright things—which is why I’m in love with ban.do. A lot of the stuff I couldn’t pull off (for example, my hair just couldn’t accommodate many of the flower headpieces) but everything on the site is either A) FUZZY 2) SPARKLY 3) SHINY or D) SOFT. Some things are all four of these things combined (don’t ask how that works)!
WARNING. LADIES. CUTE OVERLOAD.
Shoe clips, oh you fancy!

Flashy hairpieces! Glittery pins!
(My favorite is the rhinestone headband pictured on the bottom right!)
AND THEN there’s ban.do’s “Black Label” hairpieces, which I could neither 1) wear or II) afford but regardless, they’re pretty pretty…

Okay, enough’s enough. I’m about to have a cute seizure.

Movie Spotlight : Little Miss Sunshine

I NEEDED TO LIFT MY SPIRITS last night, so I watched Little Miss Sunshine as I did my homework. Everything about the movie cracks me up, from little Olive’s chunky glasses and carefree spirit, to Dad’s motivational mantras, Grandpa’s wisdom, Uncle Frank’s unstable yet gentle mannerisms, and Dwayne’s silent sarcasm.

My favorite things about the movie:
Olive being Olive.
Dad’s motivations, and despite his book deal totally falling through, still managing to stick it out for the fam.
Dwayne hating everything, but secretly kind of liking everything.
GRANDPA: Giving Dwayne pep talks, teaching Olive to dance, and having Uncle Frank run into the convenience store to buy him adult magazines.
Giving the van a push when it breaks down…then realizing, “Where’s Olive?” Going back to retrieve Olive.
The show going on when Grandpa passes away. Grandpa spending the rest of the movie wrapped in a sheet in the trunk of the VW van.
Dwayne finding his backbone after learning he is colorblind.
Olive doing her thing that Grandpa taught her, even if it gets her kicked out of the Little Miss Sunshine pageant.

And lastly, Olive’s picks…
Little Miss Olive

Go forth and watch a good funny movie. I felt great afterward!

Vivre Sa Vie

This is Anna Karina.
She’s a babe (obviously), an actress and a muse. She made her way to France when she was really young, met the right people who saw her attractiveness with potential, began modeling, changed her name, and began starring in films by some filmmaker by the name of “Jean-Luc Godard” (whom she later married), etc. During the course of her sensational career she married herself off, one or two or four times, which is beside the point. Clearly she’s good looking. Probably charismatic. Got it going on (at least she did when this photo was taken in 1960-something.) Miss Karina is still around now, which means she’s jumped to ‘cougar’ status. Meow.
So why Karina? I rented this “Godard” character’s film, Vivre Sa Vie. It turns out that Karina, Godard’s muse, has the starring role which, from what I’ve learned from reading a review or two (I haven’t actually watched the film yet), her sweet character Nana submits herself to a life of prostitution after a series of downfalls.
Here’s a trailer for the film Vivre Sa Vie (which translates to “live life”).
Now, imagine that my boyfriend revealed today that Karina is his dream woman!
How can I compete with that? She’s a cougar now!

Resurrected Jewelry

I haven’t worn any of these bracelets in years—but today I decided to wear all of them at once! Each bracelet has a little story…
( L ) Made of rolled magazine pages, a gift from my friend Rachel. I love paper jewelry and hope to find time to make my own someday!

( ML ) Turquoise beads…I bought it at American Eagle when I was probably a freshman in high school (seven years ago?). I think this chunky turquoise bracelet is fun, too!
( MR ) Wood and glass beads from my godmother, Laurie. I believe it’s from Bibelot, and I love this colorful bracelet on their site as well.
( R ) My favorite, a typewriter key bracelet, a gift from my mom (like this one from Uncommon Goods)
It’s time I resurrect more of my jewelry! I have so much of it that I neglect too often…

On another note, weekend time with Holly was glorious! Dinner, wine, and plenty of girl time. I painted my nails for the first time in about 14 years.
Today I’m enjoying a RARE Saturday OFF (I have no idea how this happened?) by scavenging Hulu (I’ve been watching Parks and Recreation all morning…highly recommend) and now going to lunch with my sister.
Happy Saturday!
